Frequently asked questions
A doula is a non-clinical birth support person who provides emotional, physical, and informational support during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. At Habitual Care, this means holding space for your fears, empowering you to advocate for your choices, and offering calm, grounded support throughout your birth journey.
Not at all. We work as part of your birth team, offering support that complements your care providers and deepens your connection with your partner. Our goal is to create a circle of trust and calm that supports you fully. Your partner and care team play essential roles, but a doula adds consistent, trained support focused entirely on your comfort and emotional well-being. We also support your partner, offering suggestions so they feel confident and involved. Unlike hospital staff who may rotate, your doula stays with you throughout labor, delivery, and postpartum.
Yes. Research shows that having a doula reduces the need for interventions, lowers cesarean rates, and increases birth satisfaction. More importantly, it gives you a safe space to ask questions, feel seen, and trust your body. This support can have lasting effects on postpartum mental health and healing.
Absolutely. Every pregnancy and birth is unique. Whether this is your second or fifth baby, you still deserve personalized, intentional care. Many returning parents find doula support especially helpful when navigating a different provider, birth location, or postpartum experience.
Yes! We support all birth paths, including epidurals, planned cesareans, and medically complex deliveries. Our role is to support your choices and help you feel empowered and informed along the way wherever you choose to welcome your baby (hospital, birth center, or home birth).
Habitual Care proudly accepts Medi-Cal for full spectrum doula services as part of California’s doula benefit program. If you have Medi-Cal, I would be honored to support you through your pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey.
At this time, all other services are out-of-pocket. I’m happy to provide superbills or documentation you can submit to your insurance provider or HSA/FSA for potential reimbursement.
There's no wrong time. Some families connect with us early in pregnancy while others reach out in their third trimester. Whenever you're ready, we'll meet you there.
We support all types of birth with compassion and care. Whether unmedicated, medicated, or surgical, we're here to walk you through every possibility, helping you stay informed, present, and supported.
You are not alone here. Whether by choice or circumstance, if your birth partner or loved ones can't be present, a doula can be a steady, supportive presence for you throughout labor and delivery. We'll hold space for your emotions, empower you to advocate for your needs, and help you feel grounded in each moment.
Yes! We are honored to support military families and recognize how emotional this time can be. If your partner is away, a doula can offer both practical and emotional support, help you stay connected with your partner virtually when possible, and make sure your voice is heard and your heart is held.
Yes! Virtual support is always available and includes birth coaching, prenatal planning, and emotional guidance no matter your location.
